Abstract |
Objectives The study was done to identify factors influencing depression related family function in immigrant women. Methods: A descriptive research design was employed. Data were collected from 136 immigrant women who lived in two provinces. Subjects were completed the following questionnaires: self- rating depression, family APGAR score, and cohesion and adaptability of family (FACEIII). The data were analyzed using frequencies, mean and standard deviation, t-test, one-way ANOVA, and multiple regression with SPSS. Results: 15% of subjects were mild depression state, 62.5% of subjects were chaotic family, and 36.8% of subjects were disengaged family. There were significant differences in depression level according family cohesion, family type, family APGAR score, nationality of subjects and occupation of subjects. Regression showed that the variance of depression of subjects was accounted for by family APGAR score, family cohesion, and occupation of subjects(total account=31%).
Conclusions According to this study, nursing intervention to decrease depression of immigrant women in Korea should include providing encouragement of their social activity and support of their family. |
