The Prevalence of Urinary Incontinence and Needs for Education among Middle Aged Women

Abstract
Purpose
The aim of this study was to investigate the prevalence of urinary incontinence andneeds for urinary incontinence intervention education among middle-aged women.
Methods
A total of 1085 subjects aged between 40 and 64 were selected using convenientsampling among women who lived in Y city at Gyungki province and S Gu at Seoul. The data werecollected using self-reported questionnaire and were analyzed using SPSS 18.0 program withdescriptive statistics and Chi-squire test.
Results
Among middle-aged women 57.6% reported that have experienced urinary incontinence. The experience of urinary incontinence was significantly associated with marital status (χ2=9.83,p=.002), parity (χ2=5.22, p=.022), regular exercise (χ2=12.09, p=.002), late-night snack (χ2=10.38, p=.001), binge eating (χ2=17.41, p=.001), objective health status (χ2=16.56, p=.002), BMI(t=-2.89, p=.004), WC (t=-2.51, p=.012).
Conclusion
Urinary incontinence in middle-aged women is a major health problem to need amanagement. This study suggest further investigations for association among regular exercise,BMI, WC and urinary incontinence, particularly in prospective studies.
