Abstract
Objectives
: This study was performed to investigate the prevalence of disordered eating attitudes and its associated factors among high school girls in Gwangju city.
Methods
: A cross-sectional study with 1,121 females was surveyed by selfadministered questionnaires including general characteristics, body concern, lifestyle, selfesteem and the Korean version of eating attitude test-26(KEAT-26). We assessed the prevalence of disordered eating attitudes and compared the KEAT-26 scores according to subject's characteristics by t-test, ANOVA and Pearson's correlation analysis. Multiple regression analysis identified the related factors with KEAT-26 scores.
Results
: Based on the KEAT-26 scores greater than 22, 5.45% of study subjects was disordered eating attitudes. The mean score of KEAT-26 was 8.85±8.17. The statistically significant factors by univariate analysis were body concern, content for their body shape, weight control, eating breakfast, preference of snack, alcohol drinking, smoking, selfesteem, and body mass index. As a result of multiple regression analysis, the associated factors with KEAT-26 were body concern, content for their body shape, weight control, preference of snack and alcohol drinking.
Conclusions
: Body concern and lifestyle are risk factors for disordered eating attitude among high school girls. Preventive strategies may focus on these risk factors that lead to disordered eating attitudes.
Key Words: disordered eating attitude, high school girls, KEAT-26
